As a Virginia wedding photographer, I love photographing weddings at Goodstone Inn because the venue feels like a countryside escape while still being within easy driving distance of Washington, DC. Set on 265 acres in Middleburg’s Virginia Hunt Country, the property has a wonderful mix of rolling fields, manicured gardens, historic stone architecture, and charming cottages.

One of my favorite things about working at Goodstone Inn is how much variety there is within the property itself. Rose and Scott’s wedding portraits took us through the gardens, around the historic buildings, and into the surrounding countryside, so their gallery feels like a collection of different settings rather than a single backdrop.
The fields are especially beautiful as the sun begins to set, when the warm evening light stretches across the countryside. Because the property looks out over open hills, there’s very little to block the setting sun, allowing that golden glow to spill across the landscape. Sunset is one of my favorite parts of the day, and golden hour, especially, gives couples those quintessential Virginia countryside portraits.
Because so much of the property is concentrated around the inn and surrounding buildings, it’s possible to create a lot of variety without spending the majority of the day traveling from one portrait location to another. That can be especially helpful for couples who want beautiful portraits while still having plenty of time to enjoy their wedding with their guests.
A Romantic Tented Reception at Goodstone Inn
After portraits and cocktail hour, Rose and Scott celebrated with their guests beneath a tent overlooking the Virginia countryside. Colorful floral arrangements, candlelight, and a mix of elegant and playful details carried their garden-inspired aesthetic into the reception, creating a setting that felt polished without being overly formal.

After photographing weddings all throughout Virginia and the DC area, Goodstone Inn remains one of my favorite settings for couples who want their wedding photographs to feel connected to the landscape. There’s something special about being able to move from historic ivy-covered walls to manicured gardens to open countryside, all within the same property.
