As a devoted military wife and maltipoo mom, Molly splits her time between Brambleton, Virginia, the city where she and her family now reside, and Pasadena, California, the city where she grew up. In June 2022, Molly and her husband welcomed the newest member of their family, Molly’s absolute favorite photographic subject, baby Juliet.

Photographing Your Surprise Proposal
A proposal happens quickly, but there is so much more to photograph than just the moment you get down on one knee. I want your images to tell the whole story: the anticipation leading up to the proposal, the surprise on her face, the ring, the celebration immediately afterwards, and the two of you enjoying those first few minutes as a newlywed engaged couple.
My proposal collections include 45 minutes of photography, with approximately 15 minutes dedicated to the proposal itself and the remaining time devoted to portraits together once engaged. That way, once the surprise is over, we can take a little time to celebrate and capture the two of you without the pressure of having to keep anything a secret.
I’ll also arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled start time so that I can get into position before you arrive. Depending on the location, I may blend in with the surroundings or find a discreet place to wait, but either way, I’ll make sure I’m ready before you and your partner arrive. I’ll even bring a matching ring box for photographs if you'd like, so that you'll have both pretty photos of the ring as well as the moments you’ll never want to forget!

I know that planning a surprise proposal comes with a lot of little details you probably haven’t had to think about before, and Washington DC offers no shortage of beautiful places to propose. From iconic monuments and historic neighborhoods to quiet gardens and scenic waterfronts. Once you’ve chosen your location and date, I’m happy to help you work out the photography logistics, including the best time to arrive, where I’ll be positioned, and how to make the most of the light.
Having photographed weddings, engagement sessions, and proposals in Washington, DC for more than a decade, I have an intimate understanding of the city and how much a location can change depending on the season, time of day, and surrounding crowds. How far in advance should I book my proposal photographer?
As soon as you have a date and location in mind, I always recommend reaching out. Proposals can often be booked with less advance notice than weddings, but popular dates and locations often fill quickly. Once your date is secured, we can work together on the photography timeline and all of the little details leading up to your proposal.
How do you photograph a surprise proposal without my partner knowing?
I’ll always arrive at your chosen location 15 minutes before you to ensure I’m in position before you arrive. Depending on the location, I may blend in with the surroundings, look like another tourist, or find a discreet place where I can photograph your proposal without being noticed. I’ll also let you know exactly what I’ll be wearing and where to look for me so you know how to find me when you arrive.
Will you help me plan the timing of my proposal?
Absolutely! Once your date and location are set, I’m always happy to recommend the best time to propose based on the light and the look you want for your photographs. I’ll also arrive early and be ready before you get there, so you don’t have to worry about whether everything is in place.
What happens after I propose?
Once your partner says yes, I’ll give you some space to enjoy the moment before we transition into a short portrait session. This is a chance to capture the two of you together as a newly engaged couple, along with the ring and all of the excitement that follows. If you would like to spend more time taking pictures afterwards or would like to incorporate a second location, additional coverage can always be added to your collection.
What happens if it rains?
Rain doesn't necessarily mean you have to postpone your proposal. I once photographed a proposal on a rooftop in Washington DC in the rain, and the photos ended up feeling straight out of The Notebook. If the forecast calls for rain, I’m happy to talk through the timing and logistics with you so you can decide whether to move forward with your original plan or reschedule for another date.
When will we receive our photographs?
I know you’ll probably be excited to share the news, so I always try to send sneak peeks the following day with a selection of photographs from your proposal. Your full gallery will typically follow within one week, giving you plenty of beautiful images to share with family and friends.
Can I include family or friends in the proposal?
Absolutely! If you’d like to have family or friends waiting nearby to celebrate afterward, just let me know when we’re planning the proposal. We can coordinate where they should wait and when they should join you so the surprise stays intact.
Do you photograph proposals outside of Washington DC?
Yes! In addition to Washington DC proposals, I also photograph proposals throughout Northern Virginia and Maryland. If you have a location outside the city in mind, feel free to reach out with the details.
