Brittney and Jeff’s DAR wedding in Washington, DC was the definition of a joyful summer evening in the city. While the venue’s historic architecture set the stage, it was the couple’s vibrant design choices and infectious energy that made the day truly unique.
Inspired by the colors of a summer sunset, the wedding palette featured rich shades of peach, pink, orange, and yellow. Bridesmaids wore vibrant mismatched floral dresses that perfectly complemented their colorful bouquets and popped against DAR’s classic white marble and grand architecture. Every detail struck the perfect balance between timeless and playful, proving that a formal black-tie celebration can still feel elevated, bold, and full of life.
A Historic DAR Wedding Filled with Color
One of the things I love most about photographing weddings at DAR is how effortlessly the venue adapts to each couple’s vision. DAR’s historic interiors, sweeping staircases, and iconic portico provide a timeless backdrop, while the O’Byrne Gallery offers an elegant setting for ceremonies and receptions alike.
For Brittney and Jeff, that classic backdrop allowed every colorful detail to shine. Lush floral arrangements filled the ceremony space with warm summer tones, while candlelight added a romantic glow as guests gathered to celebrate.
Thoughtful Details from Start to Finish
From the beginning of the day, every detail reflected Brittney and Jeff’s personalities. Their invitation suite featured soft blue paper goods paired with vibrant florals, setting the tone for the celebration to come. Antique DAR postcards served as a thoughtful nod to the venue’s history, while custom signature drinks welcomed guests during cocktail hour inside the library.
As the evening continued, guests were welcomed into a reception space filled with colorful centerpieces, soft yellow linens, green napkins, and hundreds of flickering candles. One of my favorite details? A gelato bar that was the perfect sweet treat for a warm summer evening in Washington DC!
Joy Around Every Corner
While the design was beautiful, what I’ll remember most about Brittney and Jeff’s wedding day is the joy that surrounded them all day long.
From an emotional first look and private vow exchange to the excitement of the bridesmaids seeing Brittney for the first time, every part of the day felt genuine and joyful. As the evening progressed, the celebration only became more energetic. Guests filled the dance floor, heartfelt toasts brought both laughter and happy tears, and Brittney and Jeff soaked in every moment surrounded by the people they love most.

Brittney and Jeff’s wedding was a perfect reminder that timeless venues don’t have to mean traditional design. By pairing DAR’s historic elegance with bold color, modern florals, and thoughtful personal touches, they created a celebration that felt uniquely their own.
